Grayson County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Kentucky. It was formed in 1810. As of 2000, the population was 24,053. Its
county seat is
Leitchfield. The county is named for
William Grayson. It is a prohibition or
dry county.
Geography
Grayson County is part of the
Western Coal Fields region of
Kentucky. According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 511
square miles (1,323
km²), of which, 504 square miles (1,305 km²) of it's land and 7 square miles (19 km²) of it (1.40%) is water.
Grayson County is home to two large lakes. These are
Rough River Lake on the northern border of the country and
Nolin River Lake on the southern edge of the county. These two lakes are the source of Tourism in the county and has led to the nickname of the "Twin Lakes" region being applied to the county.
